Kira Cunningham is a multidisciplinary creative and knitwear designer, currently completing her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Fashion Design with a Knitwear Specialization at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT). As a senior, she actively contributes to the campus community through her role as Secretary for Career Exploration in the Student Government Association (SGA), where she focuses on fostering diversity, collaboration, and opportunities for all students.
Through her brand, Ku-st-um By Kira, Kira combines artistry and ethics, creating beautifully crafted knitwear that champions inclusivity. As a plus-sized designer, she draws from her personal experiences to design garments that celebrate size diversity, with a particular focus on plus-size fashion. Her mission is to redefine knitwear by integrating innovative techniques with sustainable practices.
Kira’s dedication to leadership and creative excellence is reflected in her curated exhibitions, contributions to fashion shows, and commitment to amplifying underrepresented voices. Her efforts have been recognized with honors, such as the Peter Vogel Silver Leadership Key, The Michael A Noeth Service Award, and The SUNY Chancellors Award For Student Excellence.
